The attorneys will both work in the organization’s clean energy and climate change program. One of these positions is based in CLF’s Boston office and the other in CLF’s New Hampshire office, and both will be part of a dynamic group of advocates located in five offices throughout New England.

What you’ll do
The attorneys will work independently and as part of state-based and regional teams and coalitions advocating for a just and clean energy future. In this role, the attorneys will both lead and support highimpact, cutting-edge advocacy efforts in the energy, transportation and buildings sectors as part of an over-arching strategy to tackle the climate crisis.

The attorneys will:
• Cultivate and build alliances with community groups and other advocacy groups and share advice and collaborate on legal and policy matters related to energy and climate issues;
• Develop relationships, build coalitions and work collaboratively with public officials and business leaders;
• Advocate and litigate before state public utility commissions and engage with the regional independent electrical system operator, ISO-NE;
• Write public educational materials, articles, opinion pieces and communicate about advocacy work through media outlets and social media;
• Draft and review legislation and policies and advocate to local, state and federal legislatures and administrations to advance program goals;
• Engage in public outreach efforts on climate and energy-related advocacy initiatives;
• Litigate citizen enforcement cases under various environmental statutes, including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Federal Power Act;
• Lead sub-teams, supervise and mentor junior advocates and interns and contribute to the health of our community and the smooth operation of our organization.

Qualifications & Requirements
What you’ll need
We are looking for motivated and mature self-starters who can work both independently and as productive members of a talented and diverse group of advocates dedicated to CLF’s mission and distributed across five offices in New England.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• At least five years of experience practicing law;
• An active license and good standing in at least one jurisdiction and a willingness to get credentialed in Massachusetts or New Hampshire and possibly other New England states;
• Strong interpersonal skills including ease building and maintaining relationships, capacity to cultivate morale, a positive, can-do attitude, an open mind, and critical thinking skills;
• Demonstrated experience working with state and federal energy, environmental and climate justice laws and a strong grasp of political systems and regulatory proceedings;
• Litigation experience in state and federal courts, before regulatory agencies, or comparable experience;
• Strong analytic abilities, oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to environmental justice advocacy;
• Coalition and network building skills, including a cultural competence and ability to communicate and collaborate within diverse and multicultural communities;
• An ability to devise creative and highly strategic legal approaches to achieving advocacy goals;
• Strong planning, project management, and organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple advocacy projects, meet deadlines, and operate with minimal direction in a fast-paced environment;
• A capacity to develop and/or enhance expertise in relevant technical or policy areas;
• Flexibility and a good sense of humor.

About CLF
Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) protects New England’s environment for the benefit of all people. A non-profit, member-supported organization, CLF uses the law, science and the market to solve the region’s most challenging environmental problems from climate change to ocean conservation to transportation. Every day, CLF advocates stand up for New Englanders—in state houses, court houses and board rooms, regulatory hearings and community gatherings—to forge innovative paths to environmental progress and economic prosperity for all in our region. To that end, CLF works with communities of color, and those that are economically or otherwise disadvantaged, which often suffer disproportionately the impacts of environmental degradation.
