What the Little Bird Said - Just Sayin (4216 hits)

Hey, wassup ya’ll? It’s good to see you, and I thank you for stopping by. It has been a while since I’ve stopped to thank you for your loyalty and support; I’ve been caught up in this ever-evolving whirlwind we’ve created called Not Ur Momma’s News. More gratitude, as everything that has and is happening is all because of you. I know I don’t say it often enough, but there is never a moment that I do not appreciate all of ya’ll.

Here lately little birds have been landing on my shoulder and whispering in my ear. You know its bird breath that makes your ears burn when folks are talking about you? Anyway, I hear tell the rumors are my thinking is…let me be nice…a bit twisted. Moreover, it seems the folks that have my ears on fire have at least plausible veracity.

Hmmmmm. I guess the time has come for me to come clean. I don’t do well in boxes; so, if enigmatic, pragmatic and emotionally invested make me twisted, guilty as charged. Why this now? Well…because it’s pertinent to what NUMN is working to accomplish in our first few months; the work we’re asking you to join and support us in. I know folks are saying I’m crazy, and may-be they’re right. But I believe in every fiber of my being that we are capable of being change we can believe in. I believe this is our moment; I believe, right now we can make qualitative and quantitative shifts towards enduring power, participation and prosperity. I believe we can not just grasp but redefine the “American Dream” to not only include African America but authentically reflect African America.

Recently, I’ve found myself in tug of wars with my more staunchly pan-African friends. I find it impossible to continue to accept the idea of Caucasians as supreme or even capable of oppression; for far to long we have given away far too much of our power using words like those. I believe we can make a different decision ya’ll and affect almost instantaneous change in our circumstances both individual and collective. That’s what The 100,000 Angels Experiment is all about.

100,000 Angels is not NUMN’s attempt to break into the non-profit sector. We are not a fledgling charity and we are certainly not a 501 C 3. And for the record, though the button says donate we are not asking you to give your dollar and get nothing in return, but I’ll get back to that.

100,000 Angels is an in your face experiment in community based and driven Micro Funding. January 20, 2009 at noon is the official kick-off for “Angels” because on that day, at that time the change we elected, Barack Obama, will be sworn in as America’s forty-fourth president. It is at that same moment we ask you to show your commitment to being a catalyst for change we must believe in.

This experiment has the potential to forever change the way we do business, fund our schools and care for our less fortunate. I know that’s a tall order, but check this out. Success just one time provides us, as a community, with proof positive that we can finance the realization of all our dreams, individual and collective, out of our own pockets one dollar at a time. There are 36.4 million African Americans. Few of us are rich, but most of us have a buck. Consider the possibilities. Can we be the start of a movement encouraging African Americans to contribute just one dollar a month to reclaiming and reinvigorating our communities? Yes, we can. How many businesses can we seed and how many jobs can we create? How many educations can we provide; how many schools can we build? Can we free our young mothers from welfare? Can we protect our children from H.I.V. and provide life saving medical care to those who have already contracted the disease one dollar at a time? I believe yes we can. Can we be the beginning of the unity that will change the way we prosper and participate in America? Can we take the drugs and guns off our streets and replace them with recreation centers and community activities one dollar at a time? Yes, we can!

Okay, here’s the Kick-Off plan ya’ll. I know many, if not most, of you are already planning Inauguration Watch Parties. Please send this to everyone on your guest list and ask them to bring their dollar. Plan a get together for another time to plan starting your own dollar a month Angel co-operative.

I told you we aren’t asking you to give without getting. At the end of The 100,000 Angels Experiment, we will randomly draw the names of two participants to share in 10% of the proceeds. In addition, every participant will be recognized on NUMN’s 100,000 Angels page and receive a free copy of Enigma, a revealing collection of Poetry, Fiction and Prose by yours truly. Make sure to include all your friend’s names when you send in the dollars from your Watch party. Who knows, one of them may win the cash drawing and share the dollars with you. I promise all of you will enjoy Enigma.

I know you want to know where the rest of the proceeds will go, so let me tell you. Thirty percent will be divided equally between three youth and education orientated community organizations. Ten percent will fund the random drawing and an additional ten percent will be put in trust to fund NUNM’s entrepreneurial seed program. Thirty-three percent will go to covering the costs of and taxes assessed The 100, 000 Angels Experiment. Remember, we are not non-profit; we’ve gotta give Sam his share. The balance will help us to continue to improve Not Ur Momma’s News and provide you the level of excellence you have come to expect. And, of course, NUMN will ensure that 100,000 Angels program will be fully transparent by making all 100,000 Angels-related accounting records available on request.

Can we take control of our destiny today and provide the tomorrow we want to see for our children and grandchildren? Yes, we can. Can we reshape America and our place in her? Can we step up and claim our power and prosperity one dollar at a time? Yes, we can. Just Sayin
