Position Summary


Under the direction of licensed nursing staff, the Monitor Technician supports patient care activities on Medical/Surgical units. This role is responsible for continuous cardiac rhythm monitoring of telemetry patients and promptly communicating changes to the care team. Key responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, assessing and monitoring surgical dressings, assisting patients with activities of daily living, and performing blood draws and specimen collection. The Monitor Technician observes, documents, and reports patient status to support timely identification of needs and delivery of appropriate care.



Key Responsibilities


The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.


Performs testing and manages patient care based on results achieved and clinical findings.

Records patient care along the continuum, including activities of daily living (ADLs): feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.

Completes, documents, and reports patient vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, and reported pain level).

Assists in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.

Promotes patient safety, including fall prevention, and ensures a safe clinical environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Maintains order and appearance of patient rooms and work areas, including stocking patient care supplies and linen.

Provides post-mortem care.

Collaborates with the healthcare team to carry out the plan of care, including reporting observed changes in patient condition.

Ensures patient comfort relative to pain status.

Measures and documents urinary and stool output, calorie counts, and patient weight.

Assists with urinary catheter care, including indwelling and external devices; performs bladder scans, measures post-void residuals, and inserts intermittent and indwelling catheters with documentation of output.

Conducts blood glucose monitoring.

Performs venipuncture for blood draws and establishes IV access.

Gathers equipment and initiates IV placement as directed by the registered nurse.

Sets up and operates multi-lead EKG machines; attaches and removes leads and runs rhythm strips.

Assists with enteral tube feedings via nasogastric or gastrostomy tubes under licensed nurse supervision.

Performs chest physiotherapy, tracheal suctioning, tracheostomy care, and incentive spirometry as delegated and supervised by a registered nurse.

Assists with simple dressing changes, including routine care for stage I and II wounds, surgical incisions, and peripheral IV sites after RN assessment; supports wound care to promote healing and maintains skin integrity, reporting any concerns.

Other duties as assigned.



Education & Experience


Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

National Paramedic Certification preferred.

Medical terminology coursework preferred.



Full Time Night Shift Availability

Schedule: 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. with every other weekend commitment.
