ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s South Portland, ME office is looking for a Environmental/Energy Intern to join our team for summer of 2026.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with VHB staff to advance projects in a timely manner
- Assist with wetland delineations as part of a 2-person field crew
- Assist with mobile data collection for wetland delineations
- Assist with plant identification, vegetation inventory and soils analysis
- Perform GPS collection using mobile technology and perform data management
- Provide permit compliance monitoring including weekly progress reports for utility projects after internal training provided
- Assist with water quality monitoring fieldwork and data processing
- Perform data entry, research, and analysis
- Assist with writing, reporting and permit application preparation
- Assist with environmental permitting support
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work in the field which will involve travel and use of personal vehicle, extended hours, overnight stays and may include challenging field and weather conditions
- Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with teammates and clients
- Self-motivated with attention to detail
- Good time management skills
Qualifications
- Candidates must be a current student working towards their bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science or a natural science related field.
