<div> <hr align="left" size="1" width="33%"> <div> <div id="_com_1">   </div> </div> Visiting Research Engineer Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering The Grainger College of Engineering University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Visiting Research Engineer for the Intelligent Manufacturing and Thermal Systems Laboratory.  This position will build, design, and test electromechanical systems hardware and computer vision software to analyze and measure manufacturing processes and systems. Duties and Responsibilities: <ul type="disc" style="margin-top: 0"> <li style="text-align: justify">Design software architecture based on deep machine learning and artificial intelligence to interpret vision data from manufacturing processes and systems.</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Design robotic systems that capture vision information from manufacturing machines and manufactured components.</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Build and test computer vision deep machine learning workflows to scale technology.</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Prepare presentations and write reports and publications.</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Travel to attend meetings with sponsors and partners, to learn about emerging technologies.</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Design, test, and implement software quality control systems for manufacturing computer vision. Assume appropriate related duties to further the mission of the department.</li></ul> Minimum Qualifications: <ul type="disc" style="margin-top: 0"> <li style="color: #000000">Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field</li> <li style="color: #000000">Experience with deep machine learning applied to computer vision and manufacturing systems</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Experience with electromechanical systems design and operation</li></ul> Preferred Qualifications: <ul type="disc" style="margin-top: 0"> <li style="color: #000000">Experience with robotic system design and operation</li> <li style="color: #000000">Experience publishing in manufacturing journals or technical conferences</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Experience working in the manufacturing industry</li></ul> Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: <ul type="disc" style="margin-top: 0"> <li style="text-align: justify">Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with individuals from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and perspectives.</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, manufacturing processes, systems, and machines and robotic systems.</li> <li style="text-align: justify">Knowledge of software design, testing and implementation.</li></ul> APPOINTMENT INFORMATION This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis.
